Can anyone who owns a web site submit their site to the Mac Friendly Directory?

Yes, but it doesn't necessarily mean all that are submitted will be approved. All submissions are carefully reviewed to make sure that:

1) The web site, product or service is Mac "friendly" or compatible and...

2) It's something that we Mac users would find interesting or useful.

The purpose of this directory is to provide quality resources that Macintosh users will appreciate.

The bottom line is, when you see a resource listed in the Mac Friendly Small Business Directory, you'll never have to ask, "Is that Mac Compatible"?

What do you mean by Mac "friendly"?

Basically, I'm looking for products and services that are beneficial to Mac users, without "special considerations". For instance, an ebook needs to be in PDF, HTML or text for Mac users. If it's in a Windows-only format, like .exe, it's useless for us because we would need a Windows emulator like Virtual PC to use it. It's surprising how many people are still offering their ebooks in .exe. There's no excuse for this when PDF is accepted on all platforms.

The same goes for software, or multi-media products and membership sites. If it's not in a format that Mac owners cannot use natively on their computer, it's not Mac friendly, and is not appropriate for the Directory.

For more information about what's "friendly", see my "Submission Guidelines" page before you submit your site to the directory.

I'm not a Mac user, but I do have a small business resource that is available to Mac users. Is there a way I can indicate to Mac users that we are Mac "friendly"?

Sure. And I've made it very easy for you. If you're approved for the directory, you'll receive an email that includes a Mac Friendly Directory Member badge you can add to your web site page(s). It already contains the code that links back to the directory and confirms that you are a member in good standing with the directory. Your Mac visitors will appreciate your effort to let them know that you welcome their business.

If I am approved for your directory, am I required to display your Mac Friendly Directory Member seal?

No. That's strictly voluntary on your part. However, if your site is not a Mac-centric web site, how do you convey to your Mac visitors that you welcome doing business with them? I think you'll find the Mac Friendly Directory Member seal will greatly improve your relationship with your Macintosh visitors. Besides... (wink wink) I have nice little bribe for you if you do display the seal on your web site. You'll find that in the welcome email if you're approved.

Can I see an example of the Mac Friendly Directory Member seal?

Here it is. For obvious reasons, this has "sample" across it, but your badge would not have that. Your badge will also have the words "Click to Verify" on it so your visitors can see your listing in the Mac Friendly Directory.

Does it cost anything to submit a resource to the Directory?

No. There is no fee of any kind to submit your resource to the Mac Friendly Small Business Directory. The Directory is also searchable for free to visitors to Macfriendly.com.

How do I submit my resource to the Directory?

Easy. Click here and you will then be taken to a form that allows you to enter the information about your resource. Your submission will be reviewed and considered for addition to the Directory. If your resource is accepted, you will receive an email notification with instructions on how to make changes to your listing, should you choose to.

NOTE: You are responsible for keeping your resource(s) up to date in the Directory.

Will I be able to make changes to my submission to the Directory?

Yes. For your security, Macfriendly uses a two step process to verify your ID before you can make changes. This insures that you, and only you are the one making any changes to your listing.

What if I need to delete my record from the Directory?

That's easy too. Just login to your listing, and go to the bottom of the page of your record. You'll see a button that says "Delete". This will permanently remove your record from the Directory.

Can I add HTML to my resource description?

Free listings do not include the ability to include HTML or images. Enhanced listings will soon be offered with more features to help your listing stand out for more attention.

My resource listing fits into more than one of your category listings. Can my listing be found under multiple categories?

Yes, but not when you first submit your listing for approval. Once you are approved for the Directory, you may login to your listing and add other categories, or make other changes.

How will I know if my submission has been approved?

Each listing submitted to the Mac Friendly Directory is reviewed and validated before it is added. Once you are approved, an automatic email goes out to you with a welcome message and instructions about how to access your listing to make changes. Submissions are reviewed as quickly as possible, but please allow up to 3 days for approval.

Who owns Macfriendly.com?

My name is Dairrell Ham (yes, that's the correct spelling) and I live in a small town in northern Indiana near Lake Michigan. My friends say I'm a Mac fanatic, so who am I to argue with them? I guess only a true believer would spend as much time as I have building a web site like Macfriendly.com. :)

How long have you been using a Mac?

Since 1988. I'm indebted to my friend of 23 years, Bruno, over at AudioTapes.com for introducing me to the Mac. A week before seeing my first Mac, my cousin showed me a PC machine running DOS. I knew there was no way I could learn that kind of software. It didn't even look interesting. Bruno's Mac SE 20 fascinated me. I played with the incredible "mouse" for a few minutes and I was hooked forever.

Since then, I've owned a Mac Classic, Performa 6400 and the original iMac Special Edition. Currently, I have a 3 year old 17" iMac 800 and an a two year old 14" iBook. I've never owned a PC, though I do own a copy of Virtual PC. Basically, I don't do Windows if I don't have to.

I don't have a web site to list here, but may I recommend a resource to Macfriendly that might be useful for your Directory?

Absolutely. Thanks for asking.

You can do that one of three ways:

1) Use my Contact Page to suggest a resource that you think would be a good addition to the Directory.

2) You could contact the company or business owner yourself and let them know about the Mac Friendly Directory, so that they can come here and enter their own resource(s) into the Directory.

3) If you have a friend or an aquaintance that has a small business resource for Mac users, use my Tell-a-Friend page to let them know about the Mac Friendly Small Business Toolchest.

Just remember the focus here at Macfriendly.com is small business resources that are Mac friendly.
